Frequently Asked Questions
How do you preserve your products? The vast majority of skin care products on the market today use strong, potentially harmful chemicals, often preservatives (parabens) to enable them to have a long shelf life. There has been much research into the effects of putting chemicals on the skin, which are then absorbed into the system. At Ayana Organics, we have made the decision to refrain from such practices and have selected natural preservatives to extend the shelf life of our natural products (rosemary extract and citrus seed extract). So, what does this mean for you, the consumer? It means that your products have a use by date, like food. It also means that you need to store Ayana products in a cool place, below 30 degrees C and to make sure your hands are clean when you use creams from a tub. By choosing the path of natural preservatives, there is the potential for creams to go off, if not used within 6 months. However, this potential in fact, speaks volumes about the integrity of the raw ingredients. The products really are natural, and they are subject to the same laws as any other product of nature, just like food, in fact, we like to think of our products as food for your skin.
What shelf life can I expect? This depends on the product and also how they are stored, however, all creams have a shelf life of 6 months (minimum). Other Ayana products such as the coffee scrub, bath salts, massage and bath oils have a longer shelf life (approx 12 months or longer). We have packaged our products in amber jars to assist in prolonging the shelf life.
What is Cruelty Free Certification? Sadly, a great many companies still test products on animals, or have it done for them. There is absolutely no reason for this to be continuing, with other accurate testing methods available. Our entire product range is certified cruelty free by CCF Australia, something of which we are very proud. This means that our product ingredients and suppliers have been examined by an independent, not for profit organization (CCF Australia) to ensure that no animal testing has ever been on our raw ingredients or the final product. To learn more about this and to see all the other wonderful companies, doing the right thing, you can visit their website on www.choosecrueltyfree.org.au.
When you say the range is Vegan…what exactly does this mean? To us, being cruelty free, goes hand in hand with being a vegan skin care range. This means we use no animal parts or substances and no animal by-products, including honey and beeswax. We have opted to use soy wax in our baby bottom cream as it is an environmentally sound, ethical and vegan alternative to beeswax. Similarly, we have selected soy wax for our candles, in lieu of beeswax or paraffin wax. Our loofahs are also cruelty free and vegan (unlike sea sponges), as they are a species of cucumber.
